SUSQUEHANNA RIVER SMALLMOUTH
West Branch and
Upper Main Stem
More fishermen are learning how much fun smallmouth are to catch
on a fly rod. Whether it is their aerial acrobatics or their hard-fighting
qualities, the smallmouth bass has gained the respect of
fly fishermen everywhere.
We will spend our day fishing from a customized jon boat. All equipment
will be furnished; from rods and reels down to the flies that are needed to be
successful. We use 7- or 8-weight rods with floating or intermediate lines for
most of the fishing. If you have a rod you prefer, bring it along. You will also
be provided snacks, a low-fat lunch, and water. The smallmouth season typically
runs from May through October.
The average low and high temperatures for this region are listed below:
May - 48/71
June - 57/79
July - 62/83
Aug.- 60/81
Sept.- 53/73
Oct.- 41/62
We are located in
Williamsport ,
Pa. (approximately 90 miles north of
Harrisburg ) and
will either have you stay in this area or in Shamokin Dam (approx. 60 miles north of
Harrisburg )
depending on what offers the best fishing option at the time of your trip. During a fishing outing it is
possible to see numerous species of wildlife including deer, great blue herons, white egrets,
green herons, kingfishers, ospreys, killdeer,
Canada geese, and a variety of ducks.
Bald eagles are occasionally spotted.
We release all the fish we catch. A camera will be available to provide you with a few photographs.
